Mount Olive Lutheran Church

Serving Others through Outreach

Outreach as Evangelism

Mount Olive is committed to fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as found in Matthew 28:18-20: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Members of the congregation are urged to identify and invite family members and friends to worship with us who presently have no church home.

During the worship service, prospective members are given an opportunity to sign a Rite of Fellowship Book located in the church pews at the time of the offering. Guests are invited to request a visit from the Pastor if they would like to know more about our common spiritual life.

The Board of Evangelism keeps an accurate listing of all prospective members and guests at our worship services. As a follow-up, Mount Olive sends a letter of welcome to our visitors and encourages them to attend in the future.

Prospective members who hold membership in another Lutheran congregation may contact the church office to ask Pastor Sizemore to write for their letter of transfer to Mount Olive.

Prospective members who are new to the Lutheran Church are invited to attend a series of six new member classes taught by Pastor Sizemore during the Sunday school hour.

Outreach as Social Ministry

“'...And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me’” (Matthew 25:39-40).

Mount Olive Church is involved with many worthwhile groups in our community:

Sharing God’s Love

Mount Olive maintains a close relationship with our local food bank, Sharing God’s Love. They provide food, clothing and financial assistance with spiritual emphasis to those in need in our local area. Sharing God’s Love is an interdenominational organization and receives donations from a number of area churches, including Mount Olive. We supply donations of needed items year round. Currently, Pastor Sizemore of Mount Olive is the President of Sharing God’s Love.

Blood Drives

The American Red Cross provides a blood drive twice a year at Mount Olive. Many of our faithful members along with others in our community take the time to donate this life-saving gift. Please watch the Olive Leaves newsletter for the next upcoming blood drive.

Ronald McDonald House

Mount Olive supports the wonderful work of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. We participate in fundraisers to assist them in their efforts to help families with sick children, and soda tab-tops are collected all year to raise money for them. In addition Mount Olive members provide a meal four times a year to feed the families staying at the “House that Love Built.”

Service is central to our lives at Mount Olive. Our congregation offers ongoing support to a number of organizations and needs.
